Pregnancy through Postpartum

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I love working with pregnant women and new moms. I find that even with a “normal” pregnancy and delivery, most moms don’t get the time and services they need to recover and prevent some of the things like leaking that we’ve accepted as normal and just need to accept and deal with it.

I’m all about helping you make this miraculous experience as comfortable and easy as possible. There is some exciting work I’m doing that helps restore the pelvis and helps the muscles work better faster.

I’ve been passionate for 20 years now about being with women on this journey like I wish I had been supported.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Prolapse is one of the most common conditions I see women come in with. In fact, every organ of mine that can prolapse has, and I have been able to move and do what I want without pressure once I learned how to use and train my muscles to work with and for me.

The good news is, in most cases, it’s very treatable with tweaking how you use your core and managing what we call “intra-abdominal pressure” in the PT world (which is just a fancy way of saying how much pressure is on your pelvis).

I know (personally) prolapse can be really intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. I’m here to support and empower you in managing your prolapse. I love helping women like you because this work has made such a positive impact in my own life!

Urinary Stress Incontinence + Leaking

I wish that we allowed ourselves to talk more about leakage.  It is so common that most women assume it’s normal. But it doesn’t have to be!

You may have heard you need to do Kegels, and you try them but they don’t work or you don’t try them because you don’t think you’re doing them right. That was me…and I am a PT!

Sometimes we’ve been trying so hard to strengthen our muscles they get too tight and then when we need them there is not much left to help us not leak.  I help women learn to use all of their core muscles to help prevent leaking and be able to laugh and sneeze and even jump on a trampoline!

If you’re experiencing unexpected leakage when you’re laughing, sneezing, coughing, or just moving through your day, pelvic floor therapy helps women give up their pads.

Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain is often dismissed because it can be hard to get to the root of where the pain is coming from. Some of the most common causes of pelvic pain I treat are everything from endometriosis and irregular digestion to fibroids and overly tight pelvic muscles.

I take a holistic approach and look at the whole body to see how it’s all working together to find the root of your pain.

For example, when I hear that someone is having pain during sex, the first thing I want to try to rule out is that the muscles are too tight and I will need to help women learn how to relax them. I usually start with breathing exercises that help you connect with the muscles and notice where and when they are tight.

From there I will develop a plan to teach you how to break the pain cycle in a gentle way.

Some women have pain for other reasons, so the best thing to do is get on the table and look at what’s happening in the whole body and how it may be affecting the pelvis.

You are right and you make sense. Our job is just to listen to your body and learn what it’s trying to tell us.

Nancy is extraordinarily gentle and effective.

Nancy has been a change agent for me. She taught me about the important relationship between the urinary tract and bowels and that helping one improves the health of the other. She taught me exercises which I do daily to improve my need to constantly urinate.

Nancy has helped me immeasurably, her visits keeping my abdomen on an even keel.

I haven’t looked back since I was referred to Nancy by another physical therapist who said she was the best around for my “gut issues”.  She was absolutely right – following rectal cancer and the attendant surgeries, my gut has struggled to behave consistently.
