Kristin (mid 30s) came to see me about 18 months after the birth of her first child. She experienced extreme urinary retention during labor and postpartum and had to return to the ER less than 24 hours after being discharged because of pain and inability to pee.
She had seen many different doctors and had even been evaluated for multi-sclerosis or some other neurological disease causing the retention. She was continuing to do self-catheterization when she felt that she wasn’t emptying. She had seen a urogynecologist in NYC who had done a series of botox injections and, after that series, the doctor told her she didn’t have any left to offer her. Kristen was anxious, depressed and frustrated with her inability to be the mom she knew her son deserved and the wife she wanted to be for her husband, who was supportive.
After hearing her birth story, we talked about some childhood issues around the bathroom and the injuries she played through as a competitive high school and college athlete. Then we worked to restore her pelvis so that her bones were in the best position possible and the muscles were allowed to work with more ease.
Jill (late 40s) came to see me on the advice of a doctor she reached out to in an effort to help her manage pelvic pain that kept her from being as active as she wanted to be.
She was reluctant to come in because she had worked with a PT in the past and wasn’t sure what else I would have to offer her. Jill admitted early on that she hadn’t really discussed her constipation issues with the other PT and didn’t understand how that could be relevant to what she was experiencing.
Once we addressed the constipation with some tweaks in her diet and what she was drinking, she was amazed that she could feel when she was tensing her muscles so much easier.
Vicki (early 60s) reached out to me on the advice of a friend who I had seen when I was working with people with back and neck pain. She had a long history of fibromyalgia-like pain generally as well as constant headaches.
She had already seen many doctors and PTs, taken the medication, and done the exercises with limited relief in her symptoms.
Prior to our first hands on session, Vicki said, “This pain affects my whole personality. I don’t like who I am when I am in pain like this. It stresses me out and then everyone around me is stressed.”
In our initial session, we discussed the deeper emotional tension that may be contributing to the pain. As she began to draw connections between what was happening physically and emotionally, her body began to relax.
After our first hands-on session, Vicki was shocked that with one session, she was headache free for several weeks.
When she came back for a follow-up “tune up” hands-on session two years later, she felt much better able to manage her pain.
I learned a lot from the other PT about my pelvic floor, but Nancy really empowered me to continue to make the food choices that made my body feel its best. She also helped me establish the best exercise program for me.”
Here are all the ways to work with me…
